Hello there,
Megan here...
I thought it was due time to introduce the woman behind the vision.
I have been a performer since I could move my body. Dancing every opportunity I had, putting on endless “compulsory to watch” performances for my family and friends.
Growing up in South Africa, music and dance were everywhere I looked. From the street performers and their tribal drums to the backyard 'braais' (Kiwi's may know it as a BBQ) with my family.
In my down time (what even is down time), you’ll find me dancing up a storm in my kitchen, performing for the car next to me while sitting at the lights and running my busy household. As a wife, mum of 3 beautiful children and a fur mama to 6 animals, our house is a mini zoo so nothing beats a quiet cup of coffee in my favourite chair each morning.
As a family, we love going to the beach and exploring the rock pools in the summer.
The ocean has a hold on this clan for sure.
Winter you’ll find us building forts inside, huddled around our fire while my husband and I watch endless “compulsory to watch” shows put on by our children.
A taste of my own medicine, you might say haha!
It’s honestly so humbling to soak up their love for movement and be reminded daily why I love what I do. So yeah, this is me in a nutshell. I truly look forward to meeting you and your family too! As relationships are at the core of what it is I do!
As you may know, every business has a "why".
So I thought I would share mine...
Sunflower Dance Academy started in 2022 as an exciting new venture in my dance career.
After years of training, performing and choreographing various shows; my passion for teaching young souls was ignited by my own children.
As I was watching them grow, I was being reminded of my childhood and how naturally movement came to me.
It is something we are all born with and I made it my mission to create a space where that instinct could be nurtured with love and kindness.
My dance journey started because of my grandmother; she took me to my first ballet lesson on her own accord and enrolled me.
The seed was planted, my soul was hooked on dance.
Sunflower Dance Academy was named in honour of her, as they were her favourite flower. I remember walking onto her front porch, as these sunflowers towered over me. The feeling I experienced as I looked up was purely magical and left me in awe.
Life has a funny way of turning, and I am so excited to have come full circle in my journey. Sharing that magic I once felt with your children brings me nothing but pure joy.
To help them grow passionate about movement and music.
I truly believe that dancing is a safe space for so many and I hope here at Sunflower Dance Academy you and your children experience the same.
